Fifth annual engagement on UN Global Compact companies

For the fifth year Aviva Investors led a collaborative engagement with participants of the UN Global Compact regarding their Communication on Progress (COP). A coalition of 30 PRI signatories representing approximately US$3 trillion in assets sent letters to the chief executives of listed Global Compact signatories, in order to either welcome particularly good practice or conversely, challenge non-communicating companies to regain full participant status.

Following the engagement, 76% of companies regained active status as UN Global Compact participants. This is the highest success rate for this engagement to-date, with the previously highest percentage being 48% in 2009. Among the companies that have submitted their COPs and regained active status are Deutsche Postbank AG (Germany), Ghabbour Auto SAE (Egypt) and OCBC Bank Ltd (Singapore). This engagement will be repeated in 2013.
