PRI appoints US Network Manager

18 February 2014 – The Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) initiative today announced the appointment of Sonal Mahida as its new US Network Manager, based in New York. Ms. Mahida will be responsible for engaging with and supporting US signatories in the practice and implementation of their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risk management. Sonal will take a lead role in the growth of the PRI’s US Network.

Prior to joining PRI, Sonal focused on corporate sustainability reporting as part of the Environmental, Health and Safety team at Hess, a US oil and gas company. In addition, she was Vice President of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), where she managed the organisation’s US operations. Before joining CDP in 2008, Sonal was a Senior Governance Analyst at TIAA-CREF, where she led ESG dialogues and engagements with portfolio companies, and undertook internal proxy voting analysis.

Ms. Mahida has worked across ESG risk from institutional investor, non-profit, and corporate issuer perspectives. Her experience includes shareholder engagement, developing proxy voting guidelines, proxy voting analysis and ESG integration. Ms Mahida holds an MBA from Boston University’s School of Management and a BA from Barnard College, Columbia University.

“We are delighted Sonal has joined the PRI team,” said Fiona Reynolds, Managing Director. “Her extensive investment and ESG experience will place her well to take up the challenges within the US market. She will add a huge amount to the organisation and particularly to US signatories.”

Ms. Mahida said on her new role, “I’m very excited to be given this opportunity to work with the team at PRI and to both support and grow the signatory base within the US”.
