Reporting and Assessment

The PRI supports signatories reporting on their implementation of the Principles for Responsible Investment through a reporting framework. Providing responses to this framework is one of the mandatory requirements for all asset owner and investment manager signatories (after a one-year grace period).

Signatories have been reporting their responsible investment activities through the PRI online reporting tool for the last five years. Their responses and the aggregated results (published in the Report on Progress) can be found on the 2007 - 2011 reports page. The old online reporting format has been discontinued.

A new Reporting Framework has been designed through an extensive consultation process to achieve three main sets of objectives for signatories:

  • Accountability of the PRI: to ensure transparency and accountability of the PRI initiative and its signatories.
  • Signatory transparency: to encourage signatory transparency on responsible investment activities.
  • Signatory assessment: to provide tools to allow signatories to measure their performance with objective indicators.

New Reporting Framework

The new Reporting Framework meets the above goals by providing a set of standardised indicators relevant and to the point for all investors, with separate pathways for direct and indirect investors and specific asset class supplements. Signatories will be required to publish a subset of these indicators from 2013. Moreover, these indicators will be the base for the PRI assessment methodology. More details on the framework can be found on the Reporting Framework page while more details on the new outputs can be found on the outputs page.

Pilot year

The new Reporting Framework is being introduced in 2012 as a voluntary pilot. Taking part in this pilot is important for signatories to understand the new reporting requirements and also provides signatories an opportunity to make suggestions regarding the content of the framework before it becomes mandatory to complete in 2013. Signatories will be able to do provide feedback at the indicator level.

As a voluntary pilot, publishing your responses is optional.

Continuing consultation

We are continuing our engagement with signatories, with ongoing consultation on different aspects of the new framework including its outputs, assessment methodology, and verification and assurance. More information regarding this consultation can be found on the ongoing consultation page.
