Alberta's Climate Change Policy Plan: Progress Update and Investor Feedback
In September 2015 institutional investors with more than $4.6 trillion in assets under management sent a letter to the Alberta government supporting the government’s efforts to create a robust and credible climate change strategy.
Canadian investors behind the letter, in conjunction with the PRI, would like to invite you to hear from Alberta’s Minister of Environment and Parks and Minister Responsible for the Climate Change Office, Shannon Phillips, as she walks investors through the government’s progress in implementing its Climate Leadership Plan.
As you may be aware, the province has moved forward with many key aspects of its climate change plan, laying the framework for province-wide carbon pricing, an emissions cap for oil sands production, phasing out coal-powered electricity and incenting the growth of renewable energy in the province. This webinar will be a unique chance to hear firsthand about the successes and remaining challenges from the Minister responsible for implementation directly. We also anticipate hearing from representatives of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Energy.
The webinar will be held on December 14th, 8am PST / 11 am EST / 4pm GMT.
The province is very keen to hear from investors in regard to what their key questions and concerns are in relation to climate policy in Alberta. Note that it is a very critical time in the implementation of the province’s climate plan, with significant headwinds for climate policy developing in North America as a result of the recent election results in the US. It is extremely important for governments who are taking the lead in developing credible climate policies to know that investors support the certainty that strong climate policy provides and are actively searching for the opportunities that will spring from the energy transition.
If you are interested in a particular aspect of Alberta’s climate change plan, please forward any specific questions you have for the Minister to Jamie Bonham or Kevin Thomas, as the presentation is explicitly aimed at addressing investor questions and interests.
