PRI hires new Director of Investment Practices and Reporting

LONDON, 4 November 2015

The Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) today announced the appointment of Kris Douma as Director of Investment Practices and Reporting. He will begin his new role in January 2016. Kris joins the PRI from the NBA, the Dutch professional organisation for accountants in Amsterdam, where he is currently Programme Manager.

Kris’s role at the NBA was focused on coordinating activities around the oversight of Dutch accountants following a series of scandals in the sector. The NBA’s membership comprises over 21,000 professionals working in public accounting practice, at government agencies, as internal auditors or in organisational management.

Prior to joining the NBA, Kris spent more than seven years as the Director of Responsible Investment and Governance at MN, a fiduciary asset manager for 15 Dutch and UK pension funds, where he was responsible for the development of responsible investment policies for pension funds and implementation of responsible investment and integration of ESG factors across all asset classes. He was involved in several PRI initiatives, both in collaborative engagement activities and the development of work streams for different asset classes.

Previous to that, Kris served in the Dutch parliament, serving as a spokesperson for economic globalisation, the European Lisbon Process, European services directive, WTO (World Trade Organisation), ILO (International Labour Organisation), corporate social responsibility, corporate governance, accountancy and budget control.

“Kris brings a wealth of management experience and responsible investment expertise to this role,” said Fiona Reynolds, managing director of the PRI. “This background, combined with his strong public and private sector contacts across Europe, ideally positions him to direct our Investment Practices and Reporting teams.”

Kris will split his time between the Netherlands and London. Tomi Nummela, Associate Director of Investment Practices (formerly known as Implementation Support), and Mandy Kirby, Head of Reporting and Assessment, will report in to Kris.

In his new role, Kris will be responsible for overseeing the development of support tools to help investors implement the Principles across all asset classes. He will also oversee the Reporting and Assessment team, which supports signatories’ efforts in their implementation of the Principles.

Commenting on his new role, Kris Douma said: “The PRI is well known to me through my work with the MN and other organisations. There is great potential for investors to look at ESG across a wider variety of asset classes, which PRI’s Investment Practices, in conjunction with its Reporting Framework, can help to achieve. I am very much looking forward to the challenges of this new role.”
