26 August 2022

We are entering the final stages of report verification and testing to be able to launch signatories’ 2021 reporting outputs (Transparency Reports for all signatories, and private Assessment Reports only for investors). As such, we are now in a position to confirm that the PRI is targeting the 8th of September 2022 as the release date for these outputs. Please note that this target date is based on UK time (BST) and may vary depending on your time zone.

In light of this, we have temporarily restricted access to the Data Portal. This is to allow technical changes and verification processes to be carried out in advance of the reporting outputs being made available. Access to the Portal will be restored upon the launch of the 2021 reports.

Signatories that reported in 2021 will be notified via email once reports are available to access in the Data Portal. In the meantime, investor signatories can review the updated 2021 assessment methodology, which investors’ private Assessment Reports are based on, here.

We will also continue to share the latest developments on the 2021 outputs weekly on R&A Updates up until the launch date.

24 August 2022

The PRI Data Portal is a key resource for signatories that will be updated for the launch of 2021 reports in early September. PRI signatories are required to report on their responsible investment activities, and the Data Portal acts as the central depository of signatories’ reporting data.

The Data Portal currently houses information about investors’ responsible investment practices based on data from nearly 3,000 investors and over 340 service providers. It was upgraded as part of our 2021 pilot reporting year launch. Since then, we have continued to invest in additional software development and quality assurance mechanisms to ensure the platform is effective and efficient.

When 2021 reports are launched in early September, signatories will be able to use the Data Portal to not only view their own reports but also access the 2021 public reports of other PRI signatories. In addition, investment managers and asset owners will be able to view and download assessment scorecards (summary or per assessed module) - these scorecards will help identify best practices and guidance in areas of improvement, and provide more user-friendly access to reported data, which was a key feedback point during our signatory consultations. Public users and signatories that have not yet reported to the PRI will also be able to access public 2021 reports through the Data Portal, alongside high-level summary statistics over the last reporting year.

Reporting is iterative to our work at the PRI, and as the 2021 reports are pilot outputs, we welcome continued feedback from signatories as we improve the reporting process to ensure it remains fit-for-purpose in a rapidly changing market landscape. Weekly progress updates on the launch of 2021 outputs are shared every Wednesday at noon, in BST, so check R&A Updates regularly for more information.

17 August 2022

In 2021, the assessment methodology was revised in line with the wider changes to the Reporting Framework and to better reflect the state of the responsible investment market as well as future advancements.

We are pleased to share that the updated version of the full 2021 assessment methodology is now available on our website, alongside updated 2021 Reporting Framework modules and a tracking document that highlights any changes to indicator-level scoring methodology from 2021 to 2022.

Please see the full post for more details. Investors will receive their 2021 Assessment Reports in early September 2022, and their scores will be based on the revised methodology. We encourage signatories to familiarise themselves with the finalised assessment guidance ahead of the 2021 assessments launch in early September.

The full Reporting Framework (by module) and indicator-level scoring methodology is available to download on the Investor reporting guidance page.

10 August 2022

We are excited to share that we will be hosting a public webinar on Tuesday, 27 September, to help signatories better understand their 2021 reporting outputs: the Assessment Reports (only for investors) and the Transparency Reports.

During the session, we will go over how to access the reports, new functionalities available in the Data Portal, the new assessment methodology for 2021, and how scores are calculated. This will be followed by a moderated Q&A, where we will answer your general questions on the 2021 reporting outputs.

Please register for the webinar in advance on BrightTalk. All registered participants will be sent a video playback of the live recording.

PRI reporting provides significant value by being a global reporting framework which delivers visibility of global ESG investment practices. By better understanding their reports, signatories will have the opportunity to utilise the reports and its data to not only improve their own responsible investment practices, but to learn from others, and therefore help the responsible investment market progress overall.

If you have any questions, you can contact us at [email protected]

3 August 2022

In preparation for the launch of 2021 reports and as part of our investment in additional software development, we have completed a Permissions System upgrade to improve the overall user experience for signatories. The PRI Permissions System allows signatories to manage their organisation’s internal and external staff’s access to reporting platforms, like the Reporting Tool and the Data Portal.

The Permissions System’s user interface has been enhanced to be more intuitive and efficient. Please see the full post for more information about this upgrade.

We strongly encourage signatories to log in to the Data Portal ahead of the 2021 reports launch in September, and check their organisation’s users’ level of access via the Permissions System. This will ensure the correct contacts will be able to access the reports once they are released.

You can find our full Permissions System guide here.

27 July 2022

This week, we have continued to refine and test Data Portal functionalities that will allow signatories to better understand their 2021 reports. These functionalities will not only allow signatories to view and download their reports but also, for investor signatories, direct them to guidance materials and best practices in areas of improvement (per indicator) based on the score they receive in their Assessment Report.

Last week, we informed signatories that the 2021 reports have been targeted for a release date in September 2022. Please read our previous update for more information.

In addition, signatories were informed that the next reporting cycle will take place in 2023, but will not launch in Q1 (January to March) 2023. More details on timelines for 2023 reporting will be shared after the Board meeting in September. Please see this post for more information.

The Data Portal is a key tool that offers significant value to PRI signatories, and therefore, we are taking the time to invest in software development and to enhance functionalities in order to better meet signatories’ needs and support them in their journey to improving their ESG practices. Taking the time to thoroughly test signatories’ reports and the functionalities that will be available to view reports in the Data Portal ensures that when the 2021 outputs are launched in September, they are fit-for-purpose.

In the weeks leading up to the 2021 outputs launch, we also intend to share guidance materials on how to access our reporting platforms, including the Data Portal, so please bookmark R&A Updates and check back regularly for updates. A new update on the release of 2021 outputs is shared every Wednesday at noon (BST).

20 July 2022

Only signatories that reported during the 2021 reporting cycle will receive 2021 reporting outputs. Signatories that reported in 2021 will be informed via email and on the R&A Updates page once their reports are available to view in the Data Portal. By the time of launch, signatories will also have access to an updated 2021 assessment methodology and additional guidance materials to help them access and navigate the Data Portal, as well as understand their reports and interpret their assessment scores.

This week, we have continued the work on generating investor signatories’ Assessment Reports and refining the customisable functionalities for the reports’ view in the Data Portal by assessing which functionalities would allow signatories to best engage with their data and ensure reports are fit-for-purpose. We are also engaging in rigorous testing at each stage of development to ensure that the outputs signatories receive are of high quality.

We are in the final stages of stress-testing our launch development plans, and confident that we will soon be able to communicate more details about when the 2021 reports will be launched. All signatories that reported in 2021 will be informed about the reports’ launch via email, and we will announce the update in our weekly R&A Updates post as well as on the PRI website.

This week, we have continued the work on making technical and visual enhancements to investor signatories’ 2021 Assessment Reports, including to the customisable report view that will become available in the Data Portal as well as to the PDF export version of the reports that will be available for download. These enhancements will help signatories gain a better understanding of how their scores compare relative to their peer groups, as well as help to identify guidance tools and best practices in areas for improvement.

We are also continuing to stress test our launch development plans, with ongoing senior oversight of the operational development process. We have increased confidence that we are reaching the final stages of stress-testing and will soon be able to communicate more details about when the 2021 reports will be launched. 29 June 2022

This week, we have continued the work on generating investor signatories’ scores and Assessment Reports, as well as developing technical enhancements in the Data Portal. These technical enhancements will facilitate learning for signatories that reported in 2021 by allowing them to view their scores relative to their peer groups. They will also help promote transparency and share best practices by allowing public users to access public reports and data. In addition, we have a rigorous testing and quality assurance process in place to remove data marked by signatories as private from signatories’ public Transparency Reports. The PRI is committed to ensuring the confidentiality of signatories’ private information and to improving the quality of signatories’ 2021 outputs through increased testing.

Through consistent stress-testing of our launch development plans alongside an external provider, the PRI’s executive leadership team and the PRI Board have increased confidence that we will be able to announce a launch date for 2021 outputs to our signatories in the near future. Once a launch date is confirmed within Q3 of 2022, signatories that reported in 2021 can rest assured they will be informed both via our weekly R&A Updates posts, and via email.

Finally, we are continuing the work on developing guidance materials and resources for signatories on the 2021 assessment methodology, Data Portal, and Permissions System . We look forward to sharing these materials in due course, alongside further updates about the launch of 2021 outputs through our R&A Updates page.

To maintain full transparency, we will continue to share the latest news on the release of 2021 outputs through our R&A Updates page every Wednesday at noon (BST). Please bookmark the page and check back regularly for updates.

This week, we have continued working with an external consultancy to stress test our development and launch plans. Once finalised, we anticipate that we will be able to communicate a clearer launch timeline to our signatories.

In addition, the process of generating investor signatories’ scores for their Assessment Reports, building all signatories’ public Transparency Reports, and developing functionalities in the Data Portal continues, with the aim of making improvements based on signatories’ feedback to improve the overall user experience. This includes changes such as improving reports’ PDF formatting and enhancing security updates to ensure reports are fit-for-purpose.

Finally, we are continuing to develop guidance materials and resources for signatories on the 2021 assessment and scoring methodology, as well as a guide for how signatories can access their reports via the Data Portal. 8 June 2022

Last week, we announced that the 2021 public Transparency Reports and private Assessment Reports would not be launched in June 2022, as previously communicated. To ensure full transparency, we also committed to sharing updates regarding the launch of 2021 outputs every Wednesday, at noon (BST) through our R&A Updates page.

This week, development and testing of functionalities in the Data Portal continues, alongside additional scoping and assessment to identify the remit of the additional work remaining. As mentioned in the letter signatories received last week, these are being dealt with at the highest levels of the organisation. Conversations between the PRI’s senior leadership teams and the PRI Board are ongoing, with a view to facilitating the operational response to launch signatories’ 2021 outputs within the coming quarter.
